Redefining University Students. A Dissertation
by Anna Gevorgyan
This paper aims to explore in what ways the official discourse about the concept of ‘the student’ in the English higher education has changed by analyzing the discourses in three distinctive time periods: the period of the higher education expansion in the 1960s, the period marking the advent of neoliberalism from the 1980s to the early 2000s, and the post-2010 period of contemporary reforms in England. The study employs the historical and documentary analysis as the main methodology to address the following research question: How has the official discourse about the concept of ‘a university student’ changed in the English higher education from the period of the higher education expansion in the 1960s until contemporary times?
